This legendary machine was born to battle. The following section contains transcluded content from the Database. It can be found in Coin Launcher, Subspace Emissary, or Boss Battles. The Hydra appears as a collectible trophy in Super Smash Bros. It's an ideal vehicle for medium-length tracks, as the charge time will take too long in short tracks, and will take its toll on the user if the race is too long. After a full charge, the Hydra will go at reckless speeds. Similar to the Bulk Star, this star runs on "fuel" from charging (which takes a large amount of time). It possesses extremely high stats, surpassing even the other Legendary Machine (the Dragoon) in most areas except for handling and gliding.ĭespite its incredible power, the Hydra's charging abilities are among the worst in the game. It has very good turning, a fair glide, and extremely high attack power that can defeat most other Air Ride Machines in one hit (the only Air Ride Machine that cannot be destroyed in one hit is the Wagon Star). The player must either get all three parts from Red Boxes to ride it temporarily, or unlock all three parts on the Checklist to ride it in Free Run. The Hydra can only be unlocked in City Trial. It features large, horn-like green structures and a glowing yellow base. This machine makes a cameo in the Paint Panic Sub-Game of Kirby: Canvas Curse, as one of the various pictures that Paint Roller creates, which the player must mimic. The Hydra's appearance is based on the rhinoceros beetle, an insect known for its strength. It is always available in Free Run as well. In City Trial, the Winged Star can occasionally be found randomly throughout the city and be mounted like most other air ride machines. To unlock this machine for use in Air Ride mode, the player must enter any standard race, using any machine, and finish first while in the middle of a glide, or otherwise airborne. Contrary to what one might expect, however, it often does poorly in Target Flight as it often accelerates too quickly to properly aim for a high-scoring target - particularly if the player has picked up many patches within the city. In City Trial's Stadiums, it is almost a sure victor for Air Glider - as its distance can only be outdone by the legendary Dragoon - and does very well in High Jump to boot. It performs fairly well in most Air Ride courses if used to its strengths. Considering these factors, it must always rely heavily on its ability to fly - whether it be to win a race, or stay out of harm's way. It has low offense, low defense, low HP, and a somewhat lackluster land top speed of 14.47 mph (23.29 km/h). This star turns and charges fairly well, but most of its other attributes are poor. Its light composition, on occasion, allows it to bounce up from one glide, and landing into a second, or even a third landing, giving its rider several consecutive glide-landing boosts. This is emphasized even more, by the fact that the machine is very lightweight. Game appearances Kirby Air Ride Mechanics įar, and away, the Winged Star's greatest attribute is its great ability to glide across vast distances, and do so at high speed. While it charges in flight, it glows white, and glows brighter the longer it flies, prior to landing. Its rear is composed of three outspread jets, which expel a white jet-like propulsion while the machine is moving. It has a narrow front end tip, and wings spread out to each side. Its design resembles a pale-blue bird, with Kirby's seat, and the rear end, with darker-blue accents.
